Cheney Defends Torture...Again

In a speech to the American Legion today, Dick Cheney again defended the use of torture by the CIA.

You've got to admire the sheer scale of Cheney's hypocrisy.  For a draft dodger to stand up in front of a group of veterans, some of whom may have been tortured, and defend our country's use of "alternative interrogation techniques" takes some serious cojones.

Cheney said the CIA program involved “tough customers and and tough interrogations,” but said the information obtained from prisoners prevented attacks and saved American lives.

I'll bet John McCain was a pretty tough customer.  But hey, his torture probably saved some North Vietnamese lives, right Dick?

I don't think that military experience makes someone more or less fit to serve as a top executive in this country, but if you're going to send our troops into combat, I'd say that a draft dodger has an even greater duty to maintain the safety and standing of our military than someone who has experience war first hand.

Dick Cheney's ridiculous defense of torture in front of veterans shouldn't have even happened today.  After all, what was the American Legion thinking when they invited a draft-dodging, mercenary-hiring, non-veteran to speak at their annual convention?
